"Mindfulness, the aware, balanced acceptance of present experience, is at the heart of what the Buddha taught.”

Anne Oliver

Anne Oliver was first introduced to yoga over 30 years ago at the Sivananda Yoga Center in San Francisco. Her practice soon became a passion which sustained her through life's challenges of raising a family, facing cancer and healing from the treatments, as well as developing a meaningful career in the non-profit sector in Marin. In 2008, Anne became certified as an Integrative Yoga Therapy teacher. She has taught ever since in various venues, including studios in Petaluma and Bodega Bay, and for her co-workers at the Marin Humane Society. In 2012, Anne received a Somatic Yoga Therapy certificate from Janice Gates in San Anselmo. That same year she received her "Yoga 4cancer" teaching certificate from Tari Prinster of New York. For two years, Anne taught a yoga class specifically for people dealing with cancer, from diagnosis and treatment to healing. In the past 5 years, Anne has attended several silent meditation retreats at Spirit Rock as well as participated in day-long workshops on meditation, poetry, and chi gong. In addition to the Somatic Yoga Therapy training, she has been a student of Janice Gates weekly yoga classes, participated in women's yoga and meditation circles, day-long retreats at Green Gulch as well as small mentoring groups with Janice. Anne also taught yoga at several retreats for the nuns of the Aloka Vihara Forest Monastery. Anne blends all elements of her yoga trainings with her love of nature, poetry, tai chi, chi gong and meditation to create a unique and mindful experience for the students in her classes.
