Continuing Education Credits (CECs)

Renew Yourself While Earning Continuing Education Credits

Mindfulness and meditation can be powerful supports for the life and work of healthcare professionals. Spirit Rock offers Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for psychologists, therapists, social workers, counselors, nurses, chiropractors, and others in many of our programs.

Learn more about our CEC program below, or go directly to our Calendar to find upcoming programs that offer CECs. Some self-paced home study courses in our Library also offer homestudy CECs. Depending on the length and content of the program, up to 22 CECs are available.

Testimonial

I came for the CE Credits and left with these profound and simple teachings, by amazingly skilled teachers. I am humbled.

CEC Program Participants

Continuing Education Policies

Attendance

To be eligible for CE credits, participants are required to:

  • Register and pay for CECs prior to the start of the program, by 4:30 p.m. the business day before the program

  • Attend in full

  • Submit professional information for the certificate within one week of receiving the link

Attendance will be tracked automatically and verified as follows:

For live online programs

  • Join the program by a web browser or Zoom App, not dialing in by phone, within the first 15 minutes of the start of the program.
  • Join the program using the same email as you used to register for the program to enable proper attendance tracking.

  • Stay logged in and engaged for the duration of the program.

For non-residential in-person programs

  • Check-in at the CEC table within 15 minutes of the start of the program, each day if multiple days.

  • Check out at the CEC table at the end of the program, each day if multiple days.

For residential in-person programs

  • Check-in for CEC instructions in the Council House at the beginning of the retreat, during the regular check-in period.

  • Check-in at the CEC table, in the retreat hall foyer, within 5 minutes of the start of each required session. A list of required sessions will be posted with the retreat schedule and available at retreat check-in in the Council House.

For self-paced home study courses

  • Complete all sections of the course and all assessments.

  • Pass a comprehensive assessment at the end of the course, with a criterion of at least 75%. The assessment may be repeated if necessary.

Important Policy Notes

  • For online programs, it is the responsibility of the participant to ensure adequate internet reliability and bandwidth for online programs.

  • For in-person programs, it is the responsibility of the participant to sign in and out at the required times.

  • Incomplete attendance nullifies CEC eligibility as board regulations prohibit partial credit for partial attendance. Participants cannot join a program late, have gaps in attendance, or leave early and be given “partial credit” for the hours that they were present.

  • The CEC fee is non-refundable, including for situations where the attendance requirements are not met (e.g. failure to sign-out during an in-person event.)

Cancellation Policy

  • Open credits are available for the CEC fee when requested prior to midnight the night before the program

  • No open credits are available on the day of the program or later

  • Refunds are not available for the CEC fee

To request an open credit, please contact the Registration Department at [email protected].

Canceled Programs

Spirit Rock rarely cancels a program, but in the unlikely event that we do, all registered participants will be notified by phone and email, and the cancellation notice will be posted on our website. A refund will be issued within 7-10 business days.

Certificates

One to two business days after a program concludes, all CEC participants with complete attendance will be emailed a link to submit their professional information for their certificate.

Certificates of attendance will only be issued to participants who:

  • Meet the attendance requirements, and
  • Submit their professional information for the certificate.

Important Notes:

  • CEC certificates are issued only to those who meet the attendance requirements. This policy ensures compliance with provider requirements.
  • Participants with incomplete attendance will not be notified of incomplete attendance.
  • If you do not receive the professional information link within one week of the program's conclusion and your attendance was complete, contact Spirit Rock within that same week - [email protected].
  • CEC records will be finalized and closed two weeks after the program concludes.
  • A $20 fee applies to reissue certificates; certificates can only be reissued if attendance requirements were met.
  • Certificates are only issued digitally.

CEC Provider Information

Continuing Education Credit (CEC) is co-sponsored by Spirit Rock and the Spiritual Competency Academy. CECs are available for psychologists and California-licensed MFTs, LCSWs, LEPs, LPCCs, nurses, and chiropractors. See the Board details below. Please review the program description to determine license applicability, as not all CEC programs are applicable to every license listed here.

Our programs may be applicable for other licenses. For those with a different licensing board or association, please contact your board directly to determine if your accreditation board will accept the credits offered by Spirit Rock. Spirit Rock does not confirm the applicability of credit for those with licenses different than those listed here.

Psychologists

CE credits for psychologists are provided by the Spiritual Competency Academy (SCA) which is co-sponsoring this program. The Spiritual Competency Academy is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Spiritual Competency Academy maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

For questions about your certificate or the content, logistics, or other support issues regarding this course, please write to [email protected].

For questions about whether credits offered by APA approved sponsors are valid for you, contact your licensing board directly.

For general questions about credits offered by APA approved sponsors, contact SCA at [email protected].

LCSWs, LPCCs, LEPs, and LMFTs

The California Board of Behavioral Sciences accepts CECs for LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFT license renewal for programs offered by sponsors of CE who are approved by the American Psychological Association.

LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFTs from outside of California need to check with their state licensing board as to whether or not they accept credits from programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association.

Nurses

The California Board of Registered Nursing has approved Spirit Rock to sponsor continuing education for nurses licensed in California, Provider Number CEP16905. Nurses must retain their certificate of attendance for 4 years after the course concludes.

Nurses from outside of California must confirm acceptance with their licensing boards.

Chiropractors

The California Board of Chiropractic Examiners Code of Regulations 361(h)(2) provides that continuing education requirements may be met by taking continuing education courses by any California Healing Arts Board-approved provider, including those approved by the BRN.

Occupational Therapists

The California Board of Occupational Therapy allows for 12 of the 24 required continuing competency units to include occupation-based theory assessment/interview techniques, intervention strategies, and community/environment as related to your practice. The CBOT does not approve courses for continuing competency, and determining the applicability of course material for personal practice is the responsibility of the participant. Read more at CBOT FAQs.

Acupuncturists and Health and Wellness Coaches — NOTE CHANGE

Please Note: Due to changes from the California Acupuncture Board and the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching increasing fees to providers, Spirit Rock is no longer able to offer CECs for Acupuncturists and Health and Wellness Coaches.

The National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching may accept programs offered by Spirit Rock if requested in advance of the program for approval. Spirit Rock does not guarantee acceptance of credits.

Grievances

If a grievance arises pertaining to continuing education programs, teachers, or processes, the complainant should write to [email protected] as soon as possible so that the nature of the concern may be addressed in a timely fashion. If a grievance cannot be resolved this way, or if preferred, a participant may contact the appropriate professional association directly.

The Spiritual Competency Academy is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists. SCA will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content, and the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of David Lukoff, Ph.D., Director of SCA.
