Vesak 2024: Celebrating the Buddha and the Triple Gem

Vesak (Pāli: Visākha Pūjā) is the Buddhist holiday honoring the birth, awakening, and death of the Buddha. Held on the midsummer full moon, it is a beloved festival day throughout the Buddhist world. Celebrating the Buddhist holidays can help us deepen in faith, confidence in the path, inspiration, and gratitude for the gift of the Dharma in our lives. To honor Vesak 2024 (year 2568 in the Buddhist calendar), we will share simple chants from the Forest Saṅgha and Mahāyāna traditions, learn a meditation on the qualities of the Buddha called Buddhānussati, and celebrate the presence of the Dharma in our lives and in the world. All are welcome.

Choosing Aliveness: Cultivating Hope, Energy, and Liberation

When our heart is torn apart by personal traumas, our pain might be magnified by a collective suffering caused by political unrest, climate crisis, and/or racial and social injustices. We may attempt to manage our unknown future with doomsday scrolling or addictive behaviors, but these behaviors are usually ineffective and leave us feeling paralyzed, stuck, and hopeless. The Buddha’s Medicine of Dharma encourages us to live in the sacred now, finding hope amidst uncertainty.
